A basic daytime Skin care routine is crucial in maintaining healthy skin and a glowing, flawless complexion. Do you want to know how to achieve that? Great! because today we will be discussing 5 basic steps of a healthy daytime skincare routine.
Gone are the days when skincare was only a thing among the elite & upper-middle class! Thanks to social media platforms & massive marketing of beauty products, now girls & boys of every class and age are conscious about their skin.
Also in these changing times, due to Covid 19 pandemic, not everyone has the time and resources to afford a spa facial treatment! Hence, here we are super excited to share a basic daytime skincare regime that will hardly take 5 minutes out of your super busy life, and is easily manageable for everyone!
1. Cleansing:
First step is Essential in day time skin care routine
This is the 1st and essential step in a daily skincare regime. I can’t emphasize enough, the importance of keeping your skin clean, as it daily comes in contact with a lot of harmful environmental pollutants, dirt, and other factors such as makeup. So, it’s obviously important to gently remove these.
The type of cleanser you use matters a lot & it depends on the type of your skin. Generally speaking, a gentle face cleanser or more commonly known as a gentle face wash is the way to go for most skin types. But, people with oily skin often need a foaming cleanser or, a specifically developed product i.e containing ingredients like activated Charcoal
A perfect cleanser would be one that cleanses your skin, without getting rid of the essential, healthy oils responsible for maintaining skin pH. Some people cleanse too much, even with exfoliating scrubs which does more harm than good ( You can use twice a week only).
So, maintain a perfect balance & cleanse your face twice a day, firstly in the morning & second at night time before sleeping for optimum results.
2. Toning :
Second step is Optional in skin care routine
The second step, Toning is an optional step in day time skincare routine, which means it can be skipped but it’s highly recommended for adding a special glow to your skin. It not only makes your skin look fresh and young, but it also improves your overall mood because of the specific aroma.
If you have dry skin, you can simply use a hydrating toner to soothe your skin like a natural rose water spray. If you have oily & acne-prone skin, you can opt for a toner specially formulated with ingredients like salicylic acid to manage those breakouts.
3. Treating with Serums :
Third step is to treat your skin
Most people are familiar with cleansing & moisturizing, but dermatologists recommend that we add a 3rd step in between them both. Treating your skin means, packing your skin with powerful antioxidants like Vitamin C, Niacinamide & Hyaluronic acid, that help repair the damage you’ve already done to your skin.
Vitamin C serums are one of my favorite serums, perfect for use during the day, and are also highly recommended by dermatologists & skincare experts alike, all around the globe. They are highly effective for brightening dull skin & minimizing pigmentation. They also help in reversing the damage from UV exposure and pollutants.
Hyaluronic acid is another popular serum that can be used to lock in moisture giving the top layer of skin some extra hydration.
Some other serums containing ingredients like Niacinamide are beneficial for people with irritation as they calm inflammation & redness. But, Niacinamide can’t be used with Vitamin C as it minimizes its effects.
Retinols, are all the hype nowadays; because of their highly desirable anti-aging properties. But they are best suitable for use during night-time routine, which we will cover separately.
4. Moisturize:
Fourth step is to moisturize
After treating your skin, it’s time to moisturize. Moisturizers help to hydrate your skin and strengthen the skin barrier. Most people are familiar with this step; but, often they don’t know the kind of moisturizer that’s most suitable according to their skin type and time of the day.
For daytime skincare, go for a lightweight moisturizer; that is easy to absorb and doesn’t cause greasiness under your makeup layer (if you’re wearing makeup).
If you have dry skin, opt for a thicker formula; a cream maybe. Look for formulations that contain Hyaluronic acid & Ceramides since these ingredients help in water retention in the skin & are building blocks of moisture.
5. Applying sunscreen:
Fifth step, the most important Step in day time skin care routine
The most important step in day time skincare routine is applying sunscreen. But sadly, most people are unaware of the benefits of sunscreens & the hazards of going out in the sun without a layer of protection i.e, a generous layer of sunblock.
According to dermatologists & skincare experts, If you’re not wearing sunscreen, there’s no point in using the rest of the products. You might as well skip all the other steps, because, there’s no point in treating your skin when you’re not providing basic protection to your skin. UVA/UVB of the sun rays are the number 1 reason which causes premature skin aging & they can also cause skin cancer.
Even if you’re staying indoors, wear sunscreen! as these rays can also get in through the windows. Apply a generous amount of a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen as the last step of your daytime skincare routine and face the sun like a hero!
How do you find this article? Hope it helps you, please feel free to give us your feedback!
and, trust me if you’re too lazy to follow the whole routine, or are unable to afford expensive products, try doing at least 1st & last step for a week or two and you’ll feel the striking difference. You can also use some of the affordable local products, as mentioned here.
Bonus Tip: Use a product for at least 2 weeks before judging its effects & stop using immediately if it causes irritation or redness.
