LHC moved for election in Punjab

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court was moved to hold election in Punjab in the light of Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan orders, ARY News reported on Saturday.

As per details, the plea was filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique in Supreme Court.

The plea stated that the Supreme Court had ordered to hold elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab and the Election date was also announced but despite the announcement of the date, no one is serious about holding elections in Punjab.

The administration has neither made any arrangements for elections nor they are allowing political parties to hold rallies.

The plea urged that the court should order the concerned authorities to hold elections on time.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati expressed concerns over the non-provision of nomination papers to party candidates ahead of the general elections in Punjab.

“PTI candidates have contacted concerned ROs [Returning officers] but the nomination papers are not being provided yet,” Azam Swati had said. He further said that the move was a deviation from the clear and transparent elections as well as an open violation of the law.

It is pertinent to mention here that President Arif Alvi announced April 30 as the date for elections in Punjab after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) proposed dates for the election in the province in light of the Supreme Court (SC) verdict.
