Alas! The sound of Azan is no longer pleasant to our ears, the recitation of the Quran is now an irritating noise. This is the story of the Ayesha Sadiq Mosque in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The mosque has been built in a fairly populated area in Rawalpindi, where hundreds of Muslims say their prayers. It is also a seminary school for children. Multiple complaints were forwarded against this Mosque by one of the neighbors regarding the irritating voice of Quranic recitation of young kids and loud noise of Prayer calls (Azaan) from the mosque, reflecting the status of Islam in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Then on 7 September 2021, some officials of the Rawalpindi Cantonment board battered the boundary wall of the extension of this mosque that was being built in front of the mosque. The officials came at around 10 pm in the darkness and tried to demolish the structure of the building. Hundreds of people gathered at the spot with wrath against the authorities who came to demolish the extension at midnight. Upon investigation, it was found that there are one million inhabitants in the Rawalpindi Cantt area and not a single mosque for these one million inhabitants has an approved map for construction.
The whole scenario was heart-wrenching. Though the efforts of RCB are not hidden from anyone, they have tried their best to preserve the beauty of Rawalpindi. But, a few black sheep in the organization are trying to malign its image. The acts of officials from RCB who came at midnight and tried to demolish the building without any prior legal notice are steps against the cantonment act 1924.
Islam the Faith of Pakistan
We just celebrated our defense day this month that recalls the sacrifices of our brave soldiers who gave their lives for protecting the integrity of this country. Pakistani forces and civilians both invested their blood and sweat for safeguarding this land of purity. This country was founded on the ideology of Islam and we all must preserve this ideology. All the sacrifices made in the past and present by our people had a faith in themselves. That faith is the faith of peace and prosperity for everyone, the faith of protecting our dignity and ideology, the faith of unity and bravery, it is the faith of Islam.
Ideology of Pakistan
Liberalism as a peacekeeping ideology is a great path to follow. But, if we study Islam we would come to know that this very idea of liberalism has evolved from Islam itself. Some people portray it wrongly due to which we as a society have come to a point that the prayer call is now a disturbing loudness. The story of Ayesha Sadiq Mosque is a mournful truth of today’s Pakistan. However, the hopes are not out. There are still people who are working for preserving the image of Pakistan as the “Islamic Republic of Pakistan”. The call of PM Imran Khan to make the country on the model of Madina was laudable, but the question is what practical steps were taken in this direction?
The issue of the mosque under discussion must be resolved quickly before more fuel is added to the fire. The perpetrators of any illegal activity in this incident should be punished and the ones who are innocent should be given justice. We all have a firm belief in our law enforcement agencies and judiciary as they have tried their best to keep law and order intact in society, and hopefully, they would continue to do so. Let’s sit together removing all the differences of caste, color, and sect to make our homeland a peaceful and progressive state.
Pakistan today! Pakistan tomorrow! Pakistan Forever!
